ACCIDENT & EMERGENCE Founded by the artists Anika Carpenter & Ellie Howitt. Through a variety of projects including, amongst others, ArtSwaps, exhibitions, gatherings, readings and festivals, the pair bring together visual artists, musicians, poets, performers and writers. All too often opportunities for artists to talk about their work or receive feedback are limited. A & E create situations where artists can unselfconsciously exchange ideas, form new connections and critique their own and others work. A & E have found that artists’ talks, meet-the-artist sessions, group installations and critiques, make the experience of performing and exhibited more inspiring and more rewarding. Each new project presents a chance to explore and to challenge the individuals creative process and the ways in which works are presented and interpreted. Accident & Emergence is not exclusively for artists, members of the public are also invited to attend discussions and critiques, indeed A & E view the public as an essential part of each project for, as equally as an artist can inspire the viewer, the viewer can just as well open the artist’s mind and bring a fresh perspective to an artwork. “We hope that, with the support of participating artists and visitors, we can create a new ‘age of conversation’.” A & E *When we refer to ‘artists’ we mean inclusively visual artists, musicians, poets, performers and writers.
